TAKS and Heat!

Today was day 1 of the TAKS test. 3 more to go...

After school, I went on a jog. Since I didn't go yesterday (as hoped), I wanted to make sure I went today and I was thinking I wanted to go 8. My usual daily runs are 6 (when I'm not hurting) and I want to start boosting it up to 8, so I decided to start today.

It was 92 degrees outside. Remember that I'm not a hot-weather jogger? Nevertheless, I stuck it out and felt pretty damn good. Slow, but good. With my marathon coming up next week (gulp!) I wanted to focus on mileage.

Average pace was 14:07, which I'm completely fine with. Damn, it was hot.

After mile 3, I reminded myself to go another lap around Rice at least. After mile 4, I took a Gu (need to buy more). By mile 5, my left calf was cramping up again, so I took it very slowly (out of fear). At the end of mile 6, I realized I could do another mile, so I went to 7 miles. The problem/good thing about that is that I still had to return the mile to my car, so I ended up with 8 miles. And my calf tighteness worked itself out, but I took it very easy.

Woo-hoo! I felt great, despite the nasty heat and looking like crap.

Time to soak!

Cheers!
