I went running today, fully expecting a slow run. I need to not hurt myself before Saturday's long run and I'm also sore still from Tuesday's speed practice.
I set out fully expecting to do 13-minute miles.
Mile 1 was 11:17. Oops.
Mile 2 was 11:13. Double oops. Really, I thought I was slowing down.
Mile 3 was 11:57. Getting closer.
Mile 4 was 13:03. There we go!
Mile 5 was 14:04. I walked a bit more to soothe my heart rate.
Mile 6 was 13:54. Whatever. My hamstrings hurt.
Average pace was 12:34. I really had to slow it down in the end to get a more satisfactory average pace.
I went home and immediately soaked because my hamstrings locked up on me when I stopped.
Saturday is 21 miles. My group is starting earlier (meeting at 5:45am), and they're doing 14 miles, which means I have to start running at 4:30am, which does not make me happy. I want to do 6-7 before they get there and then run the last 14-15 with them (so that I have water, food and transportation if I hurt myself). I guess I'll be buying pepper spray tomorrow.
And it's supposed to be hot. Blech.
Cheers!
